A visit to Tokyo is never complete without visiting the Tsukiji Fish Market – famous for their pre sunrise tuna auctions. For the ambitious and early risers, you can register on location starting at 5am to see the tuna auctions at the largest fish market in the world.

While we did not make it up that early ourselves, we headed over to the Tsukiji Fish Market and arrived around 8:30am. The market is known as Tsukiji Market on Google Maps and can be found at 5 Chome-2-1 Tsukiji, Chūō-ku, Tōkyō-to 104-0045, Japan. If you intend to arrive via subway, you can take the Hibaya Line to H11 and the Tsukiji Fish Market will only be about a 5 minute walk from the station.

At 8:30am, the market was already hustling and bustling with visitors navigating the alleys as they eye their next food stop. Tsukiji Fish Market is more than just a place to auction tuna, it’s a place to do some grocery shopping, grab lunch and purchase kitchen items.

Walking around the block, it didn’t take long for Steve and I to go thru all of the alleys. We had just finished breakfast at our hotel before getting on the subway so while we stopped to look at the food offerings, we didn’t linger around the menus for long or stop to grab more food. The only savory snack grabbed we grabbed was what looked like a pork meatball and finished it by the stand. There are few restaurants directly in the market Overall, it took us about 45 minutes to finish walking around. It does seem short as I’ve read that some people could have spent hours at the market!

If you intend on checking out the Tsujiki Fish Market, bring cash, walking shoes and an empty stomach as you’ll be doing a lot of walking and drooling over the various food options.
