Is it no secret that Steve and I love our coffee making products and do our best to make good coffee at home when possible. My younger brother is also a coffee fanatic like us and for holidays, he had gifted us the two kettles we currently own –  the Hario V60 and the Fellow Stagg Pour Over which are both for the stovetop. The Hario v60 has taken a beating aesthetically as we haven’t been too careful about protecting it from oil splash when cooking food on the stove.

We got the Fellow Stagg Pour Over last Christmas so I have been babying it and making sure it constantly stays away from the stove when we are cooking and cleaning it to protect it. I’m most likely being over protective of but almost a year later, the Fellow kettle still looks brand new! Since this kettle has a temperature gauge, it is more ideal for coffee so we still keep the Hario in rotation for times we just want to make tea water and don’t need the temperature gauge.

The design of the Fellow Stagg Pour Over is a reasons we fell in love with it but never pulled the plug to purchase it until my younger brother did it for us. You can never go wrong with a matte black kitchen accessory especially when it’s practical with a weighted handle and temperature reading.

When I saw the announcement that Fellow was creating a Kickstarter campaign to create an electric kettle, I was all over it! The campaign was created in February and it wasn’t expected to be released until September/October so I was very excited when I saw the option to get it just a little earlier than everyone else. I jumped on that option and couldn’t be happier that I did. My Stagg EKG arrived a couple days ago and it has actually impacted my mornings in a positive manner.

I love using the stove to heat up water but was shown that electric kettles heat up much quicker. Having water heat up quicker in the morning was going to save me time when I’m making coffee to take with me to work. The Kickstarter caught my eye because it was the best of both worlds – a Fellow designed kettle AND it was electric. The base of this electric kettle allows me to set a temperature in Fahrenheit or Celsius and also offers a hold option so that once it reaches the desired temperature, it can stay there for up to 60 minutes. The cord to plug the base into the wall is a little shorter than I would have liked but the incredibly light base makes it very easy to move around. The Stagg EKG also seems slightly larger than the stovetop version but both hold 1L of liquids. Best function of all is the one big button that pushes on/off and is also used to turn to adjust the temperature.

Toggles for the hold and F/C degree display.

The kettle is currently on pre order on their website which could be a great gift idea for the holidays. I chose the Stagg EKG but they also offer the Stagg EKG+ which offers more options in terms of wirelessly controlling your electric kettle.

Although it may seem a little excessive to own 3 kettles for brewing water, each one serves a different purpose and get used for different reasons. Overall, owning kettles made for pour overs will make it much easier for you to control the pour of water when you’re looking to bloom the grind. While this is my first electric kettle experience and have no other products similar to this to compare it to, I’m very happy with my Fellow EKG and look forward to my continued usage of it!

If you choose to go with this electric kettle for your next kitchen purchase, I hope that you’ll enjoy it as much as I do!
